2021 World Oceans Day Fund

About

World Oceans Day, recognized annually on June 8, was established by the United Nations to both celebrate the beauty and mystery of the ocean, as well as to promote public interest in protecting, preserving, and sustainably managing its resources. The 2021 theme is “The Ocean: Life & Livelihoods.” The ocean covers 70% of the planet and produces at least half of the available oxygen; it is home to the vast majority of earth’s biodiversity, is a major source of food for billions around the world, and is a key driver of global economies. However, 90% of big fish populations are depleted, more than 50% of coral reefs are destroyed, and we are taking more from the ocean than can be replenished. Through a single donation to the Fund, you can support multiple organizations' initiatives working to protect our oceans and the life within them. Join us is supporting organizations that help significantly reduce marine pollution, protect marine and coastal ecosystems, and work towards the conservation and sustainable use of the sea.

Project AWARE Foundation

Project AWARE is a global NGO and a movement for ocean protection supported by a community of adventurers. They experience ‘’first-hand how quickly overfishing and pollution can alter underwater life, irreversibly damaging ecosystems that are critical to marine health’’.
To address these challenges, they take action to create both local and global change for the ocean and communities who depend on it. Their local actions are aimed to protect the most vulnerable marine species and decrease pollution. Project AWARE’s team of dedicated individuals works across the world to champion policy change and engage a community of volunteers to fuel their conservation work.

The Coral Reef Alliance

The Coral Reef Alliance (CORAL) is a non-profit, environmental NGO that is on a mission to save the world's coral reefs. We work collaboratively with communities to reduce direct threats to reefs in ways that provide lasting benefits to people and wildlife. In parallel, CORAL is actively expanding the scientific understanding of how corals adapt to climate change and applying this information to give reefs the best chance to thrive for generations to come. This combined expertise uniquely positions us to achieve our mission by rallying the conservation community around scalable and effective solutions for coral reefs.

Sea Shepherd Conservation Society

Sea Shepherd’s sole mission is to protect and conserve the world’s oceans and marine wildlife. We work to defend all marine wildlife, from whales and dolphins, to sharks and rays, to fish and krill, without exception.Serving as the only fleet in the world whose sole purpose is to protect all marine wildlife, we are committed to the protection and enforcement of conservation law.Our model of engagement provides unique, at sea resources to assist, serve and support developing coastal and island governments in the protection of their sovereign waters against illegal, unreported, and unregulated (IUU) fishing. Sea Shepherd’s primary goal is to greatly enhance a government’s own capacity to patrol, monitor, and enforce their own laws.

Ocean Conservancy Inc.

From the Arctic to the Gulf of Mexico to the halls of Congress, Ocean Conservancy educates and empowers people to take action on behalf of the ocean. We make ocean issues accessible and engaging, bringing science, political action and communications together to condition the social climate for change and protect the ocean for future generations.

Oceana, Inc.

We can save the oceans and feed the world. Oceana is the largest international advocacy organization focused solely on ocean conservation. We run science-based campaigns and seek to win policy victories that can restore ocean biodiversity and ensure that the oceans are abundant and can feed hundreds of millions of people. Oceana victories have already helped to create policies that could increase fish populations in its countries by as much as 40 percent and that have protected more than 1 million square miles of ocean. We have campaign offices in the countries that control close to 25 percent of the world's wild fish catch, including in North, South and Central America, Asia, and Europe.
